“Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lamp stand?” (Mark 4:21) Jesus is the true light who shines the world and is the way, the truth and the life. To manifest the glory of the heavenly Father, He needs to speak and act in such a way in order to shine upon the people around. As Disciples of Christ, we naturally have to live out the same manner as Christ in order to show forth the glory of our heavenly Father. That is why we need to live out the luster of Christ at all times. To avoid ourselves from falling into the trap of pride, Jesus therefore reminded us that when we contribute to charity, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing: “When you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.” (Matthew 6:3-4) Whenever we do any good work, it is purely for the glory of the Father. Value will be lost if we work for our personal honor.
