“By what authority are you doing these things?” (Mark 11:28) For Jesus “has driven out those selling and buying in the temple. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. He did not permit anyone to carry anything through the temple area." Therefore “the chief priests, the scribes and the elders approached him” and said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things?” They did not ask, “What’s wrong with us?” for they knew that they were in a position not to be defended and were afraid of facing the truth. Therefore they only questioned Jesus for his courage to testify. This time, Jesus expelled the merchants from the temple and the spear head targeted the religious leaders instead of the ignorance merchants. Jesus skillfully avoided answering their questions: what is the source of his authority? When people do not want to face the truth, it does not make a difference if they gave answer or not. Pilate once asked Jesus, “What is truth?” But he left the room before Jesus answered. As we can see that truth is within our inner self; we will easily betray the truth if we only think about self interest and gain. “Yes mean yes; No mean no” is the simplest philosophy that Jesus taught us.
