“Here I am! I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart,” (Psalm 40:8) The responsorial psalm for the first reading today is quoted from Psalm 40. The Church states that the words of the prophet Isaiah refers to Jesus Christ. “You should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the survivors of Israel; I will give you as a light to the nations, tat my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” “Here I am!” On the one hand God extends His invitation to us; on the other hand we proactively respond. This respond is important, in that God requires the use of our voice and our hands, to proclaim, and to bless. “I delight to do your will.” Note that in the Letters to the Hebrews 10:10, St. Paul states that God’s will is to have the body of Jesus Christ offered for the sanctification of humankind. Similarly, we can learn to serve others in a spirit of humbleness and self-sacrifice.
