Accepting the advice of one of the readers, I changed the name of the front page to “Words Of Blessings In Brief” (in Cantonese, the same pronunciations may mean “To Make a Long Story short”). At the same time, it will be forwarded to my personal web page.

From 13th to 15th of this month, I went to Taiwan to visit Fr. Jose Wang who is suffering from a stroke for nearly three years. He went to Taiwan to serve in the early 90’s.

His story is quite dramatic. He was originally a seminarian of the dioceses of the Shijiazhuang of the province of Hebei, China. With the conversion of China into communism, he went to Europe with the other seminarians to continue their study of theology. He was finally ordained a priest and joined the community of “worker-priests” who worked in factories on weekdays and celebrated masses on Sundays.

This lasted for five years but he was not happy because it lacked the spirit of brotherly love among the priests. Five years later, he was invited by the bishop of San Paulo, Brazil and went to Brazil to serve the local Chinese immigrants. At that time, he was introduced to the Focolore Movement which just started in Brazil. This served as a gust of driving force, satisfying his quest for the ideal of communion among priests.

Thirty years later, he suffered a severe illness and returned to Italy for rehabilitation. After recovery, he did not return to Brazil, but left his work to the younger priests (as a matte of fact, he was only in his sixties at that time) and went to Taipei working for the parish there.

He is now eighty two years of age and has been the spiritual advisor of the Seminary of Taipei for almost twenty years with many successful and famous students. However, he takes low profiles and is humble, and, no matter what, he never complains.

He is the model of our diocesan priests.
