Jesus said, “Have you not read this scripture passage: 'The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes'?" (Mark 12:10-11) This scripture comes from Psalms: Chapter 118 Verse 22 to 23. It is during the Tent Festival that the people and the priest lined up into the Temple and sang this song of praise to each other. To describe the Israeli people being discarded irreverently by all nations, the psalmist used a stone as a metaphor. However, God had chosen them as the foundation of the Kingdom of Messiah. Jesus also used the stone as a metaphor to represent Himself. After the Ascension of Lord Jesus, Peter replied in the presence of the high priest, scribes and elders about a good deed done to a cripple: “It was in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarean whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead; in his name this man stands before you healed. He is 'the stone rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.' There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the human race by which we are to be saved." (Acts 4:9-12) Peter had also shared this very special grace: "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah… you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:17-18) As long as we have maintained unity with the Church, we will be united with Jesus Himself. “Whoever listens to you (the disciples) listens to Me!”
