Purity is to avoid all improper sexual behaviour. A more noble meaning is not to harbour any thoughts related to impurity. In the Old Testament, the word’ purity’ was always referred to not being contaminated legally and liturgically. It was not limited only to mankind. It also included places and clothing. In the New Testament, it has a broad meaning including honesty, examplar, integrity, faithfulness, modesty, decency, etc. In other words, all virtues of the Catholics who are the members of the mystical body of Christ, the temple of the Holy Spirit.’ ‘Being perfect’ lies on loving completely and giving completely. ‘Learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit.’ The nature of ‘sin’ is self-seeking and rejecting God. The exhortation of John, ‘Repent, because the kingdom of God is near.’ Likewise, when Jesus began to preach in Galilee, he made the same exhortation, ‘Repent, because the kingdom of God is near.’ ‘Repent’ means we need to trust God, and through His power, we need to start afresh every day. Only those who put their trust in God can keep their body and mind pure. Lord, please help us in our mind, make us as gentle as doves, and as cautious as snakes.
