“Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?” (Luke 2:49) Nothing can be more worrisome to a parent than the disappearing of their children. After three days and nights searching for Jesus in Jerusalem, Joseph and Mary finally found him in the temple. It could not be described in words how happy and astonished Holy mother felt. Through Mother Mary’s words to Jesus, we could see how conflicted she had been, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.” All parents will voice out the same message. Holy Mother was no exception. On a side note:- To every mother, please do not assume that Mother Mary was exempt from human realities thus did not sympathize the facts and concerns of every family. Jesus’ response was clear and straightforward, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?” Though Jesus was still young, but he had already started to prepare his mother to accept the sufferings as foretold by Simeon ‘and you yourself a sword will pierce’. After this incident, Jesus was kept under the guidance of his parents Joseph and Mary for the next twenty years. Gospel of Luke added, “His mother kept all these things in her heart.” Truly, we cannot fully understand a lot of things. We cannot understand God’s arrangement completely. We just need to believe and trust the mercy of God.
