“Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” (Matthew 12:48) Jesus’ question was not a real question; he just adopted it as a theme. What was the purpose of His teaching? Jesus was willing to point out to the audience that whoever follows God’s will, those are the ones that have a relationship with Him. The Holy Trinity is the relationship of loving one another: Father loves the son while the Son returns his love to the father. Their love for each other is the Holy Spirit. The relationship between Mother and children, brothers and sisters, are completely built upon mutual love. Thus Jesus did not find it bothersome to review it once again. “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.” (Matthew 12:49-50) What Jesus values the most is the relationship of mutual love from heaven. “The devil had already induced Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot, to hand him over. So, during supper, Jesus was fully aware that the Father had put everything into his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God, he rose from supper and took off his outer garments. He took a towel and tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and dry them with the towel around his waist. He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Master, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing, you do not understand now, but you will understand later.” Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me.”” (John 13:12-8) For this title, Peter allowed Jesus to wash his feet. In order to maintain the communion with the Holy Trinity, all we need to do is follow and practice God’s will.
