“He is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.” (Luke 20:38) On one occasion, Jesus was invited to the synagogue official’s house to cure his daughter. On his way, Jesus was informed that the daughter of the synagogue official had died. When Jesus arrived, he said to the weeping and mourning, “Do not weep any longer, for she is not dead, but sleeping.” (See Luke 8:49-52) Since humans are made according to the image of God, their souls last for eternity. When the body of man ceases to live, his soul will be returned to face the final judgment before the Heavenly Father. To God, real death is when the human soul fails to meet with God forever. The Incarnation of Jesus essentially hopes to bring humans away from sin and evil while returning to God’s embrace. The Incarnation of the Son of God is a mystery. Humans who are able to share the life of God are also a greater mystery. However, this blessing requires our efforts to gain. . God wants every one of us to be able to live in His embrace. Unfortunately, human thinking has eroded by constantly contending with God. Therefore Jesus will not be annoyed to remind us to pray regularly. God is the real God of the living (those living in God’s love), rather than the God of the dead (those living in the sins). Jesus said that the girl was sleeping because she had lived in the arms of the Heavenly Father. Likewise, the gospel of today mentions the seven brothers (the assumption was pointed out by some Sadducees who deny that there was a resurrection, therefore they came forward and put this question to Jesus.) For those with no children who married the wife of their brother, what would be their relationship at the resurrection? Jesus said to them directly, “The children of this age marry and remarry; but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. They can no longer die, for they are like angels; and they are the children of God because they are the ones who will rise.” (Luke 20:34-36) Only sins can separate people with God forever!
