“The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.” (Luke 2:40) The Word became flesh, so naturally human development guided growth. Mary was educated in the synagogue when she was small; therefore she was conversant in the Old Testament and Holy Music. This could also explain why Jesus was well versed talking to the teachers when he was 12 years old, staying behind in the temple for a total of three days. Without doubt, Jesus’ mentor was none other than Mary herself. Even though Jesus is the son of God, he never glorified himself. His words were beautiful to the ear but did not bring him praise, instead degradation: “Isn't this the son of Joseph?” (Luke 4:22). He performed miracles, but the Pharisees said: “He drives out demons by the prince of demons.” (Matt. 9:34). When he walked on the water, his disciples said: “It is a ghost!” (Matt. 14:26). The only time Jesus glorified his holy face was when he was on the mountain, in front of Peter, James and John. Then from the cloud came a voice that said: “This is my chosen Son; listen to him!” (Luke 9:35). Affectionate reminder: Do everything one step at a time; complete our duty according to the will of God.
