“No one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.” (John 3:5) This verse is the annotation of the following: “No one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above.” (John 3:3) Through the sacrifice of Christ on the cross and with the help of the Holy Spirit, human can therefore return to the sanctity as they were made originally. Jesus continued to say, “And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” (John 3:14-15) In the Old Testament, the water is a symbolic reference to purify, forgiveness of sins and innovation. In addition, water is a sign of tears therefore it also symbolizes redemption. Jesus himself is also the springhead of the living water, “Whoever believes in me, as scripture says: 'Rivers of living water will flow from within him.'” (John 7:38) Moreover, the term of Holy Spirit is not often seen in the Old Testament. Instead Jesus and the Holy Spirit has always come together in an indissoluble bond; Jesus’ incarnation, the performance of miracles and driving away the demons are always the acts and power of the Holy Spirit. After the death of Jesus, “One soldier thrust his lance into his side, and immediately blood and water flowed out.” (John 19:34) This symbolizes human salvation is entirely the fruit which comes from the co-operation of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. “For Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous, that he might lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, he was brought to life in the spirit.” (1 Peter 3:18) Simply said, “Only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven, will enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)
