“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23) Before talking about such remarks, Jesus said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.” (Luke 9:22) The Gospel of Matthew and Mark added the response from Peter and his dialogue with Jesus. “Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, "God forbid, Lord! No such thing shall ever happen to you." He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do."” (Matthew 16:22-23) God is love and his love to mankind is to the extreme and is inconceivable. “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.” (John 15:13) If we want to follow Jesus, the only method is “taking up our own cross daily”. When we love (God and others), we have to “put down” ourselves to accommodate others. (This of course is including God). This is undoubtedly an action of self-death. The “death” here does not mean real death instead it means to sacrifice ones’ interest and benefit. Jesus suggested the best method is to live every moment preciously, because God’s holy will has his hour. During a wedding in Cana in Galilee, Jesus said to his mother, “My hour has not yet come.” (John 2:4) Jesus prayed at Gethsemane, he said to the disciples when he returned the third time, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand when the Son of Man is to be handed over to sinners.” The flow of the cosmos, winter comes summer gone are meticulous. In God’s creation, mankind is part of God’s plan therefore is also meticulous. The biggest difference between mankind and other creatures is human resemble the soul of God and absolute freedom. For the same reason, if humans violate the natural order, God cannot do anything and certainly does not welcome it. The incarnation of Jesus simply uses human language to speak out the tone of the heaven. However, Jesus still said, “Whoever has ears ought to hear.” During the last super, when Jesus was washing the disciples’ feet. Peter said to Jesus, “You will never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me.” (John 13:8) “So when he had washed their feet (and) put his garments back on and reclined at table again, he said to them, "Do you realize what I have done for you? You call me 'teacher' and 'master,' and rightly so, for indeed I am. If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.” (John 13:12-15)
