“Jesus met them on their way and greeted them, "Peace be with you"" (Matthew 28:9) Later, when Jesus revealed himself to the other disciples, he greeted them with the same blessing, “Peace be with you." (See Luke 24:36 and John 20:19) The peace of Jesus is a grace and a gift. A gift that needs our continuous effort to cultivate: “Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword. For I have come to set a man 'against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one's enemies will be those of his household.” (Matthew 10:34-36) At the same time, persecution is evitable: “If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.” (John 15:20) If we want to enjoy real peace, we have to deeply trust in any situation that the Lord is with us. To share His misery and happiness, we also need to have the courage to repeat what Jesus said in the Mount of Olives, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done.” (Luke 22:42) The greeting from Jesus, “Peace be with you” shows that Jesus is willing to grant each of us the blessing of peace, but everyone must first comply with the holy will of God.
