"Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men." (Luke 5:10) This saying by Jesus expresses the same idea as that when he said to the prisoner who was crucified next to him, "Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." Simon Peter was probably suspicious of Jesus when He said "Put out into deep water". (After all he is a fisherman and Jesus was a carpenter). However at the end Peter humbly admitted his mistake when he saw a big harvest of fish and said, "Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man." (Luke 5:8) One of the criminal being crucified there was displeased with the other criminal's lack of respect towards Jesus. He rebuked him and said "Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? Indeed, we have been condemned justly for the sentence we receive corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal." He continued to say, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." (See Luke 23:40-42) Jesus himself is a man, so he understands human weakness but he is also the God of infinite mercy. He only wishes for humans to repent with their heart. Even when he was dying, he pleaded to his Father for the sake of mankind in his last breath, "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34) Blessed are those who trust the mercy of Jesus.
