John is Jesus’ older cousin. Therefore, John is an elder to Jesus in terms of seniority. Yet, John humbly preaches, “I am not good enough even to untie his sandals.” He even graciously let two of his disciples leave him to follow Jesus.

God blesses each person with different gifts. It is a show of broad-mindedness when one appreciates others’ differences. True humility involves recognizing one’s own unique gifts and in turn being willing to share them with others.

There is a small parish in north-eastern China; the elderly pastor considers himself to be uneducated. Therefore, he invited teachers from his parish to teach catechism classes. During each class, the pastor prays in a small room next to the classroom. In the end, that parish became the fastest-growing parish in the region!
