Although Jesus focused primarily on Jews during his mission, he never neglected the needs of the Gentiles. When a Canaanite woman pleaded with Jesus to heal her daughter, Jesus did not refuse. The salvation that Jesus brings belongs to all of mankind. He sent forth his disciples to all corners of the earth, so that they might teach to the world that God is Love. We too are His disciples. Some of us are called to be missionaries or to the religious life. Most of us, however, are called to be witnesses to Christ's presence in our world in our homes and our workplaces. Ben is a skilled tradesperson in a factory in the Philippines. Each time he applies for a promotion, he inevitably works extra hard and prays fervently. However, when the promotion does not materialize, he returns to his old uninspired ways. At a church gathering, Ben came to the realization that it was not possible for him to achieve true joy and happiness with the way he was living his life. He resolved to always put in his best effort at work and in prayer. Many of his coworkers saw Ben's new outlook on life and were inspired to return to the Church. Ben finally did get his promotion; however, he found true joy not from the promotion, but from being able to serve as a witness to Christ.
