“Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Eph 5:20) “Always giving thanks”, because we believe that everything that happens to us is a gift. Thus, we should have a thanksgiving heart at all times. “…for everything”, that means in good times and in bad, in health and in sickness. “…in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ”, since everything that we do should be done to glorify God’s name. The following is a mother’s story: “This happened 17 years ago when my eldest daughter was two. When she went for her regular check-up, the doctor informed me that she had cancer. I became resentful and couldn’t help but blame God for this. I prayed the rosary while my daughter went through a lengthy operation. Surprisingly, I calmed down. The surgery was very successful and my daughter recovered gradually. Afterwards, I gave back to the society by volunteering at the Children’s Cancer Foundation. At the same time, I participated actively in church activities, which liven up my faith journey. Then I realized that my daughter’s illness actually unified my family. I now understand that God’s plan is always a blessing!”
