Recently, I have visited two senior homes, St. Mary and St. Joseph Senior Homes conducted by the Little Sister of the Poor. St. Joseph Senior Home located in Sheung Shui, is a modern facility and is well equipped.

I have said this to myself: if a person passed away in the midst of the service of the Little Sister of the Poor, it is a blessing for that person, because the Sisters take care of their patients 24 hours a day and are by their side especially near their last hours.

At this moment, there are 11 priests who have entered the above mentioned senior homes.

One of the Sisters said, “It is more difficult to take care of one priest than to take care of ten seniors!” She said it from the bottom of her heart. On the one hand, it shows that the Sisters respect priests. On the other hand, we, as priests, are spoiled.

We, as priests, no matter whether we are young or old, we have been spoiled by our parishioners.

We also sensed a phenomenon: For those young priests who have hot temper, when they get old, they are not getting any better, they become even worse. This really surprised me.

I’m not really that old, but I’m already qualified to receive the “half-price card” from the social welfare office. In the future, I hope that I will not become a “stumbling block” for others!
