“Stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49) In the Gospel according to St. Luke, the Holy Spirit is always around Jesus when He was baptized, and when He was tempted by Satan, and when he was preaching the Gospel. Jesus also wants His disciples to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit. Thus He wants them to stay in the city before the Holy Spirit arrives. On the 50th day after the resurrection of Jesus (which is also known as Pentecost), they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Later, Peter bravely came out and proclaimed to a crowd. Three thousand persons were baptized on that day. The preaching by the disciples is all related to the words of the God. Therefore, it will be very hard for them to lively proclaim the words to others unless they are already living with God in between them. When Jesus talked about the Holy Spirit, He said, “this is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, because He abides with you, and He will be in you.” (John 14:17) Our mission is to keep the Spirit in our hearts. When we love each other, the Holy Spirit will be living amongst us.
