‘As proof that you are children, God sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”’ (Galatians 4:6) [Communion Antiphon] When Moses brought the Israelites out of Egypt, he raised the Nehushtan (bronze snake) so that all who had been bitten by snakes would be cured. Jesus also used the same analogy to illustrate how everyone would follow him once He was raised on the cross. The cross is the sign of God’s love for us. The Holy Son once asked the Holy Father to take away his cup of suffering but the Holy Father insisted that the Holy Son be crucified on the cross in order to complete his sacrifice for the salvation of humanity. Therefore the Holy Spirit’s work is to strengthen our belief in the fact that we are God’s children, so that we can truly say from the bottom of our hearts, “Abba, Father!” Hence, we should learn to trust God. He will never let us become orphans no matter what the circumstance because through the Holy Spirit, Jesus will be always with us.
