“We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.” (Luke 17: 10) Jesus personally taught His disciples this phrase. He can foresee that his disciples will perform a lot of miracles, for example, healing the sick, casting out devils, and rising the dead, etc. Jesus hoped that His disciples will not live arrogantly. St. Paul reminded himself, “If I have faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” (1 Cor 13: 2) All we have come from God. God wants us to use what we have wisely, including time, talent and opportunity. Sr. Yuen, who serves in Annunciation Church, still continues to conduct tutoring class after school even though she has suffered from polio since she was young and has difficulties in walking. She is an elementary school teacher and wishes to benefit the poor families and those students who are being unattended. She has been doing this for more than ten years. In addition, she also volunteers as a secretary in the parish office, as well as accompanies me for home visits every night. She always said, “We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.”
