Recently, I put a video of a traffic accident on my website. In a quiet intersection, a pedestrian was killed by two cars colliding head-on; all this occurred in just a couple of seconds. This video not only reminded us the need to be careful when crossing a road, it also told us that every moment of our lives must be cherished.

“Cherish the present” is a wisdom that people often talk about. However, it is also us who often ignore this in our daily lives.

We like to hop back to old memories or hope for a bright future but we rarely home in on the present.

Jesus’ words “Do not look back when your hand is holding a plough” or “Do not be excessively worried about tomorrow” somehow do not seem to resonate in our hearts.

It seems that we have inherited a certain desire from Adam and Eve: the desire to be like God. Why? We can do Our Father’s will only when we are living the present. Therefore, when we spend time thinking about the past or the future, aren’t we, in fact, placing our wants above God’s will?

To live according to God’s holy will is to obey the commandment of love. When our hearts are filled with our own concerns and desires, where do we have room for those of others? And where do we have the energy to listen to God?

In fact, for all the wrongs we have done, we do not need to fear if we have already reconciled with God because He has forgiven all our debts. As for all the things that may come, God will give us the grace to face them all and so we have even less to fear about. The fact is when we try our best at the present moment to do God’s will, we live in God and peace lives in us.
