"What do you think? That he will not come to the feast?” (John 11:56) This was the question that the Jews who had gone up for Passover were concerned with. Amidst them, some had witnessed Jesus resurrecting Lazarus from his death and they perhaps believed in him. The rest were aware that the Sanhedrin was getting ready to arrest Jesus and they might be worried about his safety. From the civilian’s viewpoint, such curious questions could have good intentions. However, the chief priests and the Pharisees of the Sanhedrin did not feel the same. In order to safeguard their own interests, they plotted to put Jesus to death. They made up an excuse for not allowing the Romans to overthrow the revolutionary Jesus so as to destroy the Holy City of Jerusalem. In reality, they were more afraid of Jesus’ reputation than their own. Their jealousy of fire can ignite a prairie. This time, Jesus entered openly into the city, People took branches of palm and went forth to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna, blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel.” (John 12:13) Jesus did not choose his own hour, but followed his Father’s appointed time,“I have come to do my Father ‘s will.”
