“While Jesus was having the supper with the disciples, he was deeply troubled in spirit.” (John 13:21) Jesus was deeply troubled. He had learned that his beloved disciples could not withstand temptation. One was Judas who would forsake justice for money; another was Peter who was powerless but had the heart to help. Jesus gave them a last chance. To the former, Jesus handed him (Judas) a cup of wine to represent their friendship while eating the Passover supper. To the latter, Jesus predicted that he (Peter) would deny Him three times. It is a pity that Judas not only was blinded by monetary gains, he also lacked a contrite heart and dependence on Jesus. Fortunately, Peter admitted his own mistake and repented which is the most important thing. By looking at the two examples above, Jesus had given them enough hints. Both bear different consequences all because "love" was not rooted in Judas’ heart.
