“Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.” (John 17:3) “Eternal life” does not refer to immortality: It means the life living within God. According to the definition in philosophy, “eternal” refers to the irreplaceable “present moment”. Though the Passion of Christ, His death and resurrection happened two thousand years ago, from the perspective of eternity, these seems to have happened today. As a matter of fact, we existed in the vision of the crucified Jesus. We are directly responsible for His death. The word “Know” refers to a very close relationship. “To know God” or “to know Jesus Christ” means that our hearts are linked intimately with God or Jesus. In other words, when we strive to live according to God’s will, especially when we are practicing the commandment of love, we are living in the life of God. Thus, Jesus asked us not to worry about tomorrow, “because tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil.” If we cannot live positively in the present moment, how can we expect a better tomorrow?
