“Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles.” (Matthew 5:41) An old saying of Israelis: “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” expresses the same idea as a famous Chinese proverb, “He is not a gentleman not to settle an old score.” Why are humans so narrow-minded? Are we not made according to God’s image? Genesis Chapter 3 verse 15 is named as the original Gospel. The main reason is: With the betrayal of Adam and Eve who were expelled from paradise, the coming of the promised salvation from God is ensued. All things created by God are beautiful and glorious, including humans who are the most intelligent among all creatures. Still, they must take orders from God, “You may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden; it is only about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden that you shall not eat.” When people abuse God’s given freewill, their conscience will be covered. Time after time, their selfish personality will become egocentric and uncontrollable. “If you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” (Matthew 5:23-24) Jesus demands that we have to pay double the effort to maintain harmony and unity in our lives.
