“Courage, child, your sins are forgiven.” (Matthew 9:2) According to the Gospel of Mark and Luke, the paralytic together with his mat was carried and loaded down via the opened roof to the front of Jesus. Jesus highly praised the paralytic and his friends who carried him for their strong faith. This tells us that faith is not a personal matter, but a matter of the community. Our faith can be mutually influenced by one another. Jesus could see through people’s hearts. He knew that the paralytic was not only seeking for physical healing but healing in his heart and soul as well. When Jesus touched him, he expressed the feeling of remorse for his past sins. Thus, Jesus said to him, “Courage, child, your sins are forgiven.” While Jesus was being hanged on the cross, one of the criminals asked Jesus to keep him in mind when He returned to the kingdom of heaven, Jesus said to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:43) Jesus values greatly the conversion of souls. Once, Jesus was invited to dine in a Pharisee’s house. A sinful woman in the city came and bathed Jesus’ feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. She had not ceased kissing and anointing Jesus’ feet with ointment. Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you, go in peace.” Jesus explained to the crowd, “So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; hence, she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little." (Luke 7:50) Lord, grant us a heart of sincere repentance!
