“Is he not the carpenter?” (Mark 6:3) They forgot His father Joseph was from the tribe of David, and that Jesus was born in Bethlehem. They probably also forgot the prediction of Micah, “Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are one of the smallest towns in Judah, but out of you I will bring a ruler for Israel, whose family line goes back to ancient times. So the Lord will abandon his people to their enemies until the woman who is to give birth has her son. Then his fellow-countrymen who are in exile will be reunited with their own people. When he comes, he will rule his people with the strength that comes from the Lord and with the majesty of the Lord God himself. His people will live in safety because people all over the earth will acknowledge his greatness, and he will bring peace.” (Micah 5: 1 – 4) Their mind was obscured because Jesus had a humble birth. He was only a carpenter! People like to link wisdom and knowledge. In fact, wisdom is spiritual while knowledge is secular. When Jesus was twelve, ‘He was sitting with the Jewish teachers, listening to them and asking questions. All who heard him were amazed at his intelligent answers.’ Although his fellow-countrymen from his own neighbourhood probably had never heard of this amazing thing, it was a pity that they judged people only from their appearance, and neglected the word of wisdom. The word of God can not penetrate into our heart unless we are willing to accept the word of God with an open heart. “Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.” (1 Samuel 3:9)
