“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her." (Luke 10: 41-42)

“There is need of only one thing”, it seems to me that Jesus wanted to point out that Martha neglected to treasure the moment with Jesus’ presence. “Mary has chosen the better part” showing that Jesus appreciated Mary’s desire to listen to the word of God.

Jesus’ teaching, would not ask people to ignore things that should be done. He just wants to point out that there is time to work, time to rest and time to pray for everything.

“The better part”, shows that only by getting closer to Jesus, our hearts will be lead towards our Lord.

Jesus Said, “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak”. Therefore, Jesus spoke to His three beloved disciples in the Mount of Olives, “So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?”

“The better part” is a heart belonging totally to Jesus Christ.
“The better part” is living at the present moment and living in God’s will.
