“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” (Mark 9:7) When Jesus was baptized in the Jordan river, a same voice came from the heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” (Mark 1:11) Praises about the Messiah in Psalms, “You are my son; today I am your father.” (Psalms 2:7) After the angel announced the birth of Jesus, His identity as the Messiah is affirmed, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:30-33) Matthew used “My delighted one”, while Luke used “My chosen one” to described the identity of Jesus as the Messiah. The Lord’s command is to ask the Israeli people to listen to the teachings of the Messiah, “Here is my servant whom I uphold, my chosen one with whom I am pleased, Upon whom I have put my spirit; he shall bring forth justice to the nations.” (Isaiah 42:1) “A prophet like me, will the LORD, your God raise up for you from among your own kinsmen; to him you shall listen.” (Deuteronomy 18:15) The transfiguration of Jesus was not only to manifest his identity as the Messiah, but also to prepare the three disciples to go through the last night with Him in the Mount of Olives. “Then they came to a place named Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, "Sit here while I pray. He took with him Peter, James, and John, and began to be troubled and distressed. Then he said to them, "My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch."” (Mark 14:32-34) If God has given us a mission, He will naturally give us sufficient grace to accomplish it.
