“I am the bread of life” (John 6:48) It is very appropriate for Jesus to use the vine as an analogy to prove his relationship with us, “I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) Grape vines and branches all share the same life. When we receive the Eucharist and blood of Christ, The body of Christ becomes our body and the blood of Christ becomes our blood. As St. Paul quotes “Yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me.” (Galations 2:20) Some of the disciples found that Jesus’ word was too rigid, so they left him. When Jesus asked the remainder if they wanted to leave, Simon Peter answered Jesus on their behalf, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” (John 6:68) Peter’s response was similar to that of the child’s father who came to Jesus asking for a cure for his son “I do believe, help my unbelief!” Peter might also have felt that the word of Jesus was slightly too stiff, yet he was willing to stay. When we come to face any impact in our religion, we might as well say this to Jesus, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” Or “I do believe, help my unbelief!”
