“The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire labourers for his vineyard.” (Matthew 20:1) Jesus used the parable of the labourers to preach to the people : By one's own effort will not guarantee the reward of heaven, but by relying on the generous mercy of God will. This is because what God rewards us, none is not an extra bonus. Although this is a parable, it is also the fact. It was during the first six months of his preaching that Jesus chose the twelve apostles. “In those days, he departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named apostles : Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John , Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called a Zealot, and Judas, the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.” (Luke 6:12-16) Jesus wished that men participated in his work. Even when praying in the garden on Mount Olive, he also requested his three beloved disciples to be by his side. Without exception, Jesus wished to walk with men. In the parable, the landowner not only hired the labourers in the morning, but he also came to hire labourers at noon, at 3 o'clock and at 5 o'clock. So, we can see that at different periods of time, God is calling us to work for him. Matthias and Paul became the last two of the apostles. God would not care whether we have been successful in the past, but rather see if we are willing to continue to work hard.
