“Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” (John 6:68) Jesus said, “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.” Some of the disciples felt that Jesus’ saying was too rigid. So, they have left Him. Jesus did not explain in advance the significance of “The Sacrament of the Eucharist”. If the disciples had lost faith in Jesus, it would not be much help to explain further. The definition of “Faith” in Catholic theology is: “Under the shining and inspiring with God’s grace, the people’s will can initiate rationality followed by believing in the truth revealed by God.” Faith is a matter of trusting in Jesus. Thus Simon Peter’s response, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” is indeed a model of faith. At that time, Peter might also felt that the words of Jesus were hard for human to understand. However he chose to follow Him rather than his own rational thinking. A father brought his son to Jesus seeking for help, Jesus said to him,” Do you believe?” He replied, “I do believe, help my unbelief!” Let us learn from the trust Peter’s and the father’s prayer, “Lord, please increase my faith in You.”
