“Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it.” (Luke 17:33) “Losing his life” indicates “self denial” and “taking up his own cross”. Jesus said, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23) In order to follow the Lord, it is unavoidable to face hostility from others, but this is still a blessing: “Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man.” (Luke 6:22) The cross becomes a sign of a Christian: “Whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.” (Matthew 10:38) However, Jesus does not want us to be too afraid of the future: “Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil.” (Matthew 6:34) Living in the present moment is a warm reminder from Jesus. People always have the tendency of looking for pride and ignore the fact that only at the present moment can we complete the work entrusted by God. Jesus on the cross redeemed our life and is the life of our “Soul”. This life is made according to the image of God. This life belongs to God. We are only the custodians of this life.
