“This poor widow put in more than all the rest.” (Luke 21:3) Jesus wisely saw that the widow had given all she had including her living expense, even though she was insufficient. Jesus appreciated the act as she offered it with unreserved dedication. The same spirit of unreserved dedication had been lived out in the early days of the church: “The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they had everything in common. With great power the apostles bore witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great favor was accorded them all. There was no needy person among them, for those who owned property or houses would sell them, bring the proceeds of the sale, and put them at the feet of the apostles, and they were distributed to each according to need. (Acts 4:32-35) As of today, seminary organizations have lived out in accordance with the same spirit of poverty. The life witnesses in the seminary are nothing more than to remind the faithful that earthy material is only a form of media, which helps build the world of communion. We must not become the slaves of earthy materials. This includes our reputation, status and power. A good example about the Ananias couple who were severely punished was recorded in Acts 5:1-11. According to the notation of Studium Biblicum: “The Ananias couple were severely punished, not because they withheld the money of the sold property, but rather for their act of pretending to be generous to the public. In reality they had malice in their hearts and they were guilty for deception and making an obscene lie to the Holy Spirit. It is through the Holy Sprit do we find unity and mutual love of the faithful. God appreciates the spirit of human’s generosity.
