“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19) Andrew was the brother of Simon Peter, he and James were the disciples of John. They followed Jesus when they heard John say, “Behold, the Lamb of God.” Jesus said to them, “What are you looking for?” They said to Him, “Where are you staying?” Jesus replied to them, “Come, and you will see.” Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter said, “We have found the Messiah.” (See John 1:35-41) As the days passed by, Jesus met the two brothers again by the seaside. Jacob and his brother James were also there. Jesus said to them, “Come, follow me!” Later on, with the same concise words Jesus invited Philip and Matthew to follow him. The calling of the Lord is just as simple as that, “Come, follow me!” Jesus did not set out any conditions, he only requires each of us to bear our own cross everyday, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24)
