“As for you, your sins are forgiven.” (Luke 5:20) When John the Baptist and Jesus began to preach, the main topic they taught was coincidentally about “repentance”: “Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”- John the Baptist (Luke 3:9) “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” – Jesus (Mark 1:15) The nature of “repentance” depends on reverting man and God’s relationship in harmony means to rekindle the fire of love towards God. Please listen to Jesus’ saying at the house of a Pharisee: “Do you see this woman? When I entered your house, you did not give me water for my feet, but she has bathed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but she has not ceased kissing my feet since the time I entered. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she anointed my feet with ointment. So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; hence, she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.” (Luke 7:44-47) To admit one’s guilt is the basic condition of repentance. It is also a shortcut to enter the threshold of heaven. Please listen to the dialogue between Jesus and the two criminals who were crucified along with Jesus: One of the criminals, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us.” The other said in reply, “Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.” (See Luke 23:39-41) Jesus replied to the second criminal, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” God sees through people’s minds and whoever dedicates their love for the sake of God will accumulate treasure in heaven.
