When the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to him to ask him, \u201cWho are you?\u201d He admitted and did not deny it, but admitted, \u201cI am not the Christ.\u201d So they asked him, \u201cWhat are you then? Are you Elijah?\u201d And he said, \u201cI am not.\u201d \u201cAre you the Prophet?\u201d He answered, \u201cNo.\u201d So they said to him, \u201cWho are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us? What do you have to say for yourself?\u201d He said: \u201cI am the voice of one crying out in the desert, \u2018Make straight the way of the Lord,\u2019 as Isaiah the prophet said.\u201d Some Pharisees were also sent.
