Pastor's Corner January 26, 2003 |
3rd Ordinary Sunday |
If you could recall, a group of young people dressed in traditional attire was present
at the Rite of Installation of Pastor last year. These people are members of the
"Herald of the Gospel". They are not brothers nor nuns, but laymen living in a
community, recognized by Pope John Paul II as the "International Association of the
Faithful of Pontifical Right" on February 22nd, 2001. Back then this association had
already established communities in 29 countries in 5 continents.
It all started when a group of Brazilian youths evangelized in San Paulo, the capital
of Brazil. Using music, culture, and arts to evangelize, this group became very
popular amongst young people. The founder of the group is John C. Dias, who is also
the current President.
The members pledged to consecrate themselves to Jesus, to express special
devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and to love the Church fervently.
In Canada, they have formed a 70-piece band called the "Knight of the Millennium",
touring throughout Canada to give concerts at different churches. They will be in
Toronto in the beginning of February. We have already invited them to perform at
our Parish. Whether they can make it or not depends on their itinerary.
