恭讀聖路加福音　7:24-30

若翰派來的人走後，耶穌就向眾人論若翰說：「你們到曠野裏去，是為看什麼？是隨風搖動的一支蘆葦嗎？你們出去，究竟看到什麼？是一個穿著細軟的人嗎？看！那衣著華麗、生活奢侈的人是在王宮裏的。但你們出去究竟看見什麼？一個先知嗎？我對你們說，正是的，而且還勝過先知！這就是經上指著的那位：『看！我派遣我的使者在你面前，為你預備道路。』我告訴你們，婦女所生的，沒有一個比若翰更大的；但是，天主國中最小的一個比他還大。」民眾和稅吏聽了若翰的話，都承認天主的聖善公義，受了若翰的洗禮。但法利塞人和經師們自己，不受苦翰的洗禮，天主對他們的計畫落空。

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke 7:24-30

24 When the messengers of John had gone, he began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken by the wind? 25 What then did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those who are gorgeously appareled and live in luxury are in kings’ courts. 26 What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 27 This is he of whom it is written, `Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.’ 28 I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John; yet he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” 29 (When they heard this all the people and the tax collectors justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John; 30 but the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the purpose of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.)

恭讀聖瑪竇福音　21:23-27

耶穌進入聖殿，正在教訓人時，司祭長和民間的長老前來對他說：「你憑什麼權柄做這些事？誰給了你這樣的權柄？」耶穌回答他們說：「我也向你們提一個問題，如果你們答覆我，我就告訴你們我憑什麼權柄做這些事。」若翰的洗禮是從哪里來的？從天上？還是從人來的？」他們心中思量說：「如果我們說：『從天上來的』，他會說：『那麼你們為何不相信他呢？』但如果我們說：『從人來的』，我們又害怕群眾，因為眾人都認若翰是一位先知。」於是他們回答耶穌說：「我們不知道。」耶穌說：「我也不告訴你們，我憑什麼權柄做這些事。」

23 And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?” 24 Jesus answered them, “I also will ask you a question; and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things. 25 The baptism of John, whence was it? From heaven or from men?” And they argued with one another, “If we say, `From heaven,’ he will say to us, `Why then did you not believe him?’ 26 But if we say, `From men,’ we are afraid of the multitude; for all hold that John was a prophet.” 27 So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

恭讀聖若望福音　1:6-8,19-28

曾有一人，是由天主派遣來的，名叫若翰。這人來，是為作證，為給光作證，為使眾人藉他而信。他不是那光，只是為給那光作證。
這是若翰所作的見證：當時，猶太人從耶路撒冷派遣了司祭和肋未人，到他那裡問他說：「你是誰？」，他明明承認，並沒有否認；他明認說：「我不是默西亞。」 他們又問他說：「那麼你是誰？你是厄里亞嗎？」 他說：「我不是。」 他們又問：「你是那位先知嗎？」 他回答說：「不是。」 於是他們問他說：「你究竟是誰？好叫我們給那派遣我們來的人一個答覆。你自己說你是誰？」他說：「我是在曠野裡呼喊者的聲音：修直上主的道路！正如依撒意亞先知所說的。」 被派遣來的有些是法利塞人；他們又問他說：「你既不是默西亞，又不是厄里亞，也不是那位先知，那麼，你為什麼施洗呢？」 若翰答覆他們說：「我以水施洗，你們中間站著一位，是你們所不認識的；祂在我以後來，我卻當不起解祂的鞋帶。」 這些事發生於約但河對岸的伯達尼，若翰施洗的地方。

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light. 19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20 He confessed, he did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” 21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” And he answered, “No.” 22 They said to him then, “Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” 23 He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, `Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.” 24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. 25 They asked him, “Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?” 26 John answered them, “I baptize with water; but among you stands one whom you do not know, 27 even he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” 28 This took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
